We are excited to venture out into the wilderness again, due to the recent lack of tourist traffic we have witnessed an increased amount of rare wildlife. And, there have been some incredible reports of animal activity throughout the country. Jaguars have been spotted during the day. Safest Zones of Costa Rica
Some areas of Costa Rica are on Orange Alert due to a recent rise of COVID. The following is a list of popular tourism zones that have less than 3 active cases per 1000 people. Based on these locations, we can put together an amazing adventure for you in Costa Rica. We recommend outdoor activities, that require minimal contact with people outside your social bubble. We also suggest limiting your time on public transport and choosing 1-3 destinations only. That way, you will have more time to enjoy each region and be as safe as possible.
- Drake Bay (0.1)
- Puerto Jimenez & Matapalo (0.2)
- Playa Carillo (0.7)
- Mt. Chirripo (1.6)
- Playa Bejuco & Coyote (1.7)
- San Gerado de Dota/Quetzales National Park (2.4)
- Rio Celeste (2.4)
- Poas Volcano (2.6)
Best Hotels and Accommodations
Many hotels have closed indefinitely due to the pandemic. GringoCurt.com is compiling a list of accommodations that we will be working with. We will continue to update this list as hotels decide on their financial situation. In general, we recommend private rooms or vacation rentals over dormitory or hostel-style accommodations. We would also discourage visitors from large resorts that include communal meals.
Safety Measures
At this time, it is mandatory to wear a mask or face covering while in public. Masks and plastic face-shields are readily available for purchase in Costa Rica, or you can bring your own. We guarantee that our guides will wear masks at all times throughout your tours. Hand sanitizer will also be available on any guided activities.
For any snorkeling or diving activities, we recommend bringing your own equipment if possible. However, we guarantee that shared equipment will be sterilized between each use.
We strongly suggest that you abide by social distancing measures while in restaurants, local businesses, on beaches, or on public transport. You may notice “X”‘s taped to the floor of supermarkets and pharmacies to indicate where to stand in a queue in order to maintain appropriate personal space.
You will find that Costa Rican people take these health measures very seriously, so please respect this, and protect yourself and our close-knit communities.
Although it is no longer required to present a negative covid test prior to arrival in Costa Rica, we are encouraging our guests to get tested anyway. Drake Bay currently has zero cases of the virus, and we ask that you protect our little paradise by ensuring that you are negative.
You can find more information about current regulations and safety measures on our COVID UPDATES page.
