We recommend three different ways to get to Drake Bay. Boats leave twice a day from the village of Sierpe at 11:30am and 3:30pm; A local collectivo bus leaves La Palma de Osa at 11:30am and 4:30pm; and daily flights depart San Jose and Puerto Jimenez. Simply use the search form below to find the best option for you.
Before arriving in Drake Bay, it is highly recommended that you advise your hotel which transport option you will be using, as many offer free transfers from the airport or boat landing. When arriving by boat from Sierpe, boat captains will also approach you to ask where you are staying. This is so that they can organize drop offs efficiently, as some hotels are not located in the main town. Please be kind to them as they are only trying to help!
While you are in Drake Bay, transport is included in all tours and other activities can be easily organized with a combination of hiking, horseback riding, taxis and boats. Quad bikes are available for rent in the main town, but can be extremely dangerous due to the condition of the roads and lack of insurance. Cycling is not recommended due to the tropical climate, steep inclines and gravel roads.
If you would like us to help you reserve your transfers from Sierpe or Drake Bay Airport; book a rental car; private shuttle; or domestic flight; please visit our adventure packages page for more information, or use the Make it Happen contact form in the side bar.
Please note that due to Coronavirus, transport logistics and pricing are subject to change. At this time we are accepting reservations from Canadians and residents of the United Kingdom the European Union. Please visit our Covid-Safe Packages page for more details.
